Making Paper From Plant Materials: An Outdoor Papermaking Demonstration with Gibby Waitzkin is postponed until May 1st, 2021
Due to a forecast that includes a 93% chance of rain with plenty of wind, the Center has decided to postpone the Papermaking demo by one week. It is now going to be held on May 1, 2021. This event is free and open to the public. Gibby will be leading two demonstrations at 10:30am - 12:00pm and 2:30pm - 4:00pm.
More about the Demo:
In Celebration of Earth Day, we are hosting an outdoor papermaking demonstration led by artist, Gibby Waitzkin. Waitzkin will demonstrate her creative process: embedding images, using objects, weaving, and creating her boat forms.
Waitzkin grows and harvests bamboo, banana, iris, lilies, papyrus, grapevines, thistle, and artichoke on her thirty-acre farm off the Blue Ridge Parkway. She then cooks, processes, and forms these materials into paper using methods that date back over 2,000 years.
