Students bring any fabrics on which they want to print, objects that they are interested in, sketchbook/paper, pencil, eraser, dark pen (sharpie), paper scissors and labeled fabric scissors (I have scissors to use with questionable sharpness sometimes). Additional irons are helpful.
Ages - 18 and older
Class Description: After a brief introduction to printmaking, historical influences, patterns and a bit of math with discussion of positive and negative space, we will try an exercise on positive and negative space. After that, we will sketch a few designs and determine our best printing materials to use (I bring a few choices for texture and line), and assemble relief printing blocks.
About the Instructor: I have borrowed the phrase "multi-media artist" from my friend as I work with pattern, texture, structure and threads in a variety of ways. I studied painting and printmaking during my undergraduate degree time, became immersed in textiles and have a multi-media stew that keeps my interest and exploration in the ways things interact.
