‘Pure Floyd’, Paintings by Joli Ayn Wood Opening Reception August 11, 2018

Please join us for the Opening Reception of ‘Pure Floyd’, Oil Paintings by Joli Ayn Wood, in the Center’s Falcon Gallery on Saturday, August 11, 2018, 5 – 7 pm.    This exhibit will remain on display through Saturday, October 6, 2018.

Born in Roanoke, Virginia, Joli has been painting and creating since 2003, both in the studio and on location “en plein air.” She is inspired by the mountain vistas and rural landscapes of Southwestern Virginia, the rugged coastlines of New England, as well as the striking Desert Southwest. When she is not creating or teaching art, Joli seeks to champion fellow artists with deep involvement in local art non-profit organizations, creating opportunities for artists to exhibit and sell their work. Joli resides with her husband and two cats in the small mountain town of Floyd, Virginia.

“For The Four Seasons Series, I found inspiration by the works of Claude Monet, and how he painted the views in and around his home in Giverny, France in all the seasons, in all weather.  When the weather turned cold after the new year, I spent more time in my home studio and turned my attention towards the views from my studio, and other windows in the house, capturing sunny days as cold, snowy nights. I painted mainly ‘alla prima’, or from life, in one sitting. Similar to plein air, but indoors, if you will. I will be including the Four Seasons Series in the show, as well as other recent paintings capturing the landscape along Poor Farm Rd. (and beyond).  All in all, it is Purely Floyd!”
