Beginning Blacksmithing, November 11-12

Class Description: This beginning blacksmithing class will introduce students to the equipment, tools and safety precautions involved in the use of the blacksmith’s forge. Once familiar with the tools of the trade, the class will practice fundamental blacksmithing techniques while learning to make basic hooks, tools and decorative flares. Students are asked to bring their own safety glasses and to wear long pants and close-toed shoes. Aprons and gloves are optional.
Minimum Age: 18 and older or with special permission by instructor
Minimum Enrollment: 3, Maximum Enrollment: 12
About the Instructor: Dillard Frazier lives in Meadows of Dan, Virginia. Dillard and his wife Pam, began Heritage Arts, a family organization with the goal of preserving the arts of their Appalachian area and heritage. They have made it their goal to be the reservoirs and transmitters of as much of the traditional Appalachian arts and crafts as possible.
