About the Instructor: Bonnie Shropshire, Artist/Designer - After retiring in 2004 after 25 years as a paralegal, Bonnie fulfilled a longtime dream to finish college. She enrolled as a full time student at Surry Community College where she earned her degree in Advertising and Graphic Design. Bonnie is also a designer for OESD/Bernina. She currently has four sets of embroidery designs on the market, including: Feather Beauties and Floral Beauties among others which are based on her very detailed pencil drawings. Bonnie Shropshire is passionate about art and quilting. An artist her entire life and quilter for more than 29 years, she wanted to combine quilting and art in a way that everyone could participate, even if they have no background in art or quilting. As a Quilting Instructor for Surry Community College, she became familiar with barn quilts when she and the Surry Quilter’s Guild traveled to Ohio and visited a Mennonite relief auction in August a couple of years ago. She saw so many beautiful designs on the local barns and houses it inspired her to combine both of her loves, quilting and art, into one form. Bonnie enjoys meeting with fellow quilters, teaching workshops and lecturing to quilt guilds where she shares her ideas and continues to learn new things from other quilters and artist. When not traveling and teaching, she spends her time developing new quilt patterns for Hoffman’s of California fabric company and enjoying the peace and quite of her studio on their farm just outside of Dobson, North Carolina. She and her husband of 45 years, Jerry, are the proud parents of two grown sons, Marty and Anthony. They have two grandsons, Dawson and Aiden, who live next door to them and have easy access to “Big Nanny’s” cooking and spoiling. They round out their household with Sophia, a golden retriever and four cats, Sylvester, Amy, Misty and PJ.
