Class Description: Learn how to use common facial and body measurements to create portraits that are realistic and true to the model. Students will use charcoal and/or pencil as their medium learning the importance of value and composition. Students will finish a completed portrait from the photo they provide. MATERIALS: Newsprint, Drawing Pad, Pencil, Charcoal, Kneaded Rubber Eraser, Photos of a person’s face (full on, profile ¾ view would be best).
Minimum Age: Responsible Young Adult
Minimum Enrollment: 5, Maximum Enrollment: 12
About the Instructor: Karen Sewell has had a passion to create all of her life. She enjoys working with multiple media and any subject matter that whispers to her. She was raised in Floyd County, and the beautiful surroundings are a constant inspiration to her. Karen has diligently developed her own style of painting, which she feels is still evolving. Being diverse in her creative process prevents her from becoming stagnant, allowing her to continue to grow as an artist. When looking at her work, she knows that through the years she has developed a style that reflects her life, her values, and her passions. She is a founding member of the Floyd Artists Association LLC and instruct students in pastels, oils, portraiture and color theory. karensewellartist.com
