About the Instructor: Nikki Pynn has been working in stained glass since 1980. Her introduction to the medium came while working on her undergraduate at Virginia Commonwealth University. She learned in an non-traditional way, not taking a class but created her own style of working and going to a professor at VCU for critiques. Following her graduation with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Printmaking, she continued the practice of stained glass construction. In 1989, she worked in a stained glass shop, learning a traditional system of working in glass. Nikki worked in the traditional manner of making panels until 2003. At that point, she began experimenting with the traditional techniques, pushing the limits of weight and form. She was encouraged by the negative spaces of objects around her and began incorporating those objects into her pieces.
